ABOUT US

MARK

I was born March 13, 1959 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island USA - in a Catholic Hospital which was torn down right after I was born (was this a sign?!?!?!  LOL)  My family wasn't Catholic, they were Universalist Unitarians at the time of my birth although they were both raised as Methodists.

That Hospital was the closest to where my folks lived in Massachusets.  The evening my Mom went into labor (March 12) there was a Blizzard going on and the roads were a mess so they headed for the closest one.   Once at the Hospital I decided it wasn't quite time, so after Midday on Friday the 13th of 1959 I decided to appear into this world at 2:58PM.   My Moms family was half English/half German.   My Dads family was half German/half English.  However, I've learned that my family name probably could trace it's roots back to a Jewish beginning, but you'd have to go way, way back.    My Dads family started the Wallendorf Porcelain Factory in 1764 in the Thuringia region of Germany (the Factory is still in business to this very day, despite the World Wars, and Communist rule of East Germany).

At nine months of age my Dad got a job in Rockingham, North Carolina and the family moved there.   I grew up in this small Southern textile town until I was 13 and then my Dad got a job with Dan River Mills in Danville, Virginia.  I stayed in Virginia living in several different towns until I was in my mid Twenties.   While living in Lynchburg, Virginia (best known as the home of Rev., Jerry Falwell) I served as Chairperson of the Blue Ridge Lambda Alliance.  BRLA was the small gay organization in Lynchburg.   We had a support group, telephone helpline and offered a Party once a month - since Lynchburg did not have a Gay Night club (nearest Gay Bar was 60 miles away in Roanoke).   In Lynchburg I met my first partner of 16 years.   We left Lynchburg to start a new life in Asheville, North Carolina.    I had always loved Asheville and the Blue Ridge/Smoky Mountains of western NC.   In the late 1990's our lives started to head into different paths - none of which either he or I had control of.   I met Robert, my now Husband/Huzbear :) in 2000.   We had a Union Service at our local MCC on February 14th., 2003 and on August 5th., 2003 we OFFICIALLY got LEGALLY Married at City Hall in Toronto, Ontario Canada.   We hope to head out to the Pacific Northwest in 2005 to start a new life there, as we both love that part of the world.   I am currently enrolled with Professional Career Development Institute to learn Home Inspection.  As of April 2004 I'm half way through the course and have a 98% grade point average.

MY HOBBIES

I enjoy are; hiking, camping, weaving, travel, growing hoyas and palms, digital photography, computer/internet, graphic arts, sculpture, and crafts.  I enjoy meeting new people (especially Bears, of course), but I'm somewhat shy and quiet till I get know and feel comfortable with people - except on the internet were I'm likely to say just about anything!  Not having to look at someone face to face makes it easier for me!  lol   Once I'm comfortable then you've got me as a true friend.  I love my Siberian Husky named Zeta - hense the name of this site as ZETA BEARS and our email address of zetabase@highstream.net where we both enjoy getting emails from around the world!   So please feel free to write or growl

ROBERT

I was born in November 15, 1962 in a little town called Kern, 30 miles outside of Stockholm, Sweden.   My family moved to Canada in 1964 to Bowmanville, Ontario.  I Grew up on a large Dairy farm from the age of 8 until I was 15.  Educated at Toronto University.  Got a Masters Degree in Reconstructive Surgery.  Worked in that field for three and a half years.   Then took a seven month course in Ottawa to become an Ontario Provincial Police Officer.  Did that for four and half years.   Was married to a woman for nine years.   Jumped the fence BIG TIME in 1987 and through some friends I became a Cub Master at the Tool Box in Toronto.    Also, dabbled at the same time with the Leather Club.   Was given a job opportunity of a lifetime and moved to North Carolina in 1991 and have been here ever since.   My second life time opportunity was to meet my lover/Huzbear Mark in 2000.   My family and friends have all been very supportive of my lifestyle (Canadians are a TOLERANT people!) and think it was the best thing to ever happen to me.  I have no regrets but always look into the future to better my life along with my partner.  No matter what happens with me I keep a positive and strong attitude.

Friends and family consider me to have a robust personality, sense of humor, outgoing, up front, and I'll say it like it is!   Also have a big and caring heart that has been repeatedly walked on, stabbed, two faced, game playing, door mat.     I have managed to continue to leave my heart open for attack again.   This is one of my biggest flaws that Mark points out to me, very time it happens.   I continue to see the best in everyone no matter what.  (Mark: see he's just asking for it!!!! lol).   I refuse to believe that we are meant to only have one best friend and many regular friends.    I so far, have been very blessed and surround myself with a great lover, friends and family, but I'm always willing to have more friends.

MY HOBBIES

consist of weaving, coin collecting, travel, entertaining, gardening, cooking, baking, camping, shopping, friends, movies and above all my greatest pride and joy next to Mark are my two show cars.

I am also studying Home Inspection along with Mark.

OUR PETS

Robert brought his Dog Arthur to our relationship and Mark brought his Dog Zeta to the Family.   Both Robert and Mark gained a son named Dustin (our lop earred rabbit) in 2003.

The following section 'ABOUT YOU'!  Is a copy from another Bear named Mike also known as Drummer Bear who lives in NYC. I would like to Thank him for allowing me to share this section with you!

ABOUT YOU

IF YOU'RE A BEAR?

You're a special kind of man. You've probably rejected the notion that the clean-cut, shaved-and-waxed-bodied, young, 28-inch-waisted boy-next-door is the only standard bearer of the ideal of male beauty (although he too is every bit as beautiful in his way). You've come not only to recognize the beauty in your natural body type and/or hirsuteness but also to embrace and celebrate the undeniable sexiness that your unique brand of absolute masculinity embodies. You're here as a brother, you're beautiful and you are welcome here.

IF YOU'RE A BEAR-LOVING NON-BEAR?

You're a pioneer blazing a path of acceptance and love of bear men that reaches the world outside of the bear community. Secure enough in your own identity, you have the freedom to appreciate the differences in another man and relish them. You have what it takes to make a man who might feel "out of the circle", as unfortunately a few of our bear brothers do, become more in touch with himself and feel loved for what he is. You're our brother, too. You're beautiful and you are welcome here.

IF YOU'RE A WOMAN?

You're probably all too well aware of the kind of crap that non-gay bears put up with in terms of rejection and non-acceptance from most of the female population. I read some kind of national survey on sex appeal and the number one turn-off among women regarding the male body was "hairy backs, chests". Many wives make their husbands shave their backs (I've known a few) and a recent TV commercial for a hair removal system shows a lady removing whole strips of fur from a man's leg and back! Although there is a straight bear movement brewing, it has always been hampered by the facts that, one, the bear movement and culture have always been an overwhelmingly gay phenomenon and, two, that many non-gay bears, because of their very heterosexuality, do not even recognize themselves as objects of sexual desire and don't see the obvious appeal of their own smoldering, masculine sexuality (whoa, calm down, Mike). Not you, sister! You're your own woman and make no bones about what you like. You appreciate the male body on its own terms. You're of a rare breed of women who enjoy the very masculine traits that set his gender apart. That you are a visitor to a gay male site makes you even more cool and probably a lady who enjoys stepping off the beaten track. You're hip, you're beautiful too and you are very definitely welcome here.
